Is Your Website Earning Its Keep?
Is your website attracting and holding the interest of prospective customers?

You have just visited a sample of our work at InsideDomino. You clicked here because you were interested in our services. Why use us? Our biggest reason to use us is that the website design that you just saw was accomplished to allow non-developers to maintain the website content. Websites should change frequently, and you want your users in 100% control of their website. Read the following article, called Beauty is only skin deep to get an idea of how we think.

Beauty is Only Skin Deep

Most websites are beautiful brochures. The graphics that we see are awesome. But, is there enough there to form a long term relationship? In many cases the answer is no. Think of "superballs". Remember them? They seemed to bounce off any object very fast. Are people bouncing off your site? Or are they being caught? Take a look at the following list of common web problems:

1) Thousands of click-throughs with very few people sticking or requesting more information.
2) Few phone calls to you from interested prospects
3) Product information is not concise
4) Product information is not complete
5) No money has been made from the website
6) Calls-to-Action on the website are week
7) Website is not helping products make a prospect’s short list for purchase evaluation

Rule: You are only one click away from losing a prospective customer ALL the time.

If this sounds like you, read on...You need some distinct calls to action. We have one right on this page. Look to the right and you will see us asking you if you want to discuss your website. Does your site have many different calls-to-action?

Calls to Action
1) Make brisk sales from the website (directly or indirectly)
2) Make prospect’s short list for purchase evaluation
3) Generate sales activity
4) Generate emails from and phone calls from prospects for more information
5) Generate online demos for products
6) Website must reflect a deep degree of information, and depth of content
7) Website must contain multiple calls-to-action (think “Lobster traps”)
8) Website must publish pricing models
9) Study http://www.mcfee.com, and http://maysoft.com as models. These two sites are state of the art. They stand alone as examples that generate significant revenue due to their intelligence, detail of content and thoughtful design.

Remember – Your website can not guarantee a sale, but it can guarantee a lost sale.

In summary, if your website is not more than a pretty face, prospective customers will bounce off it to your competitors.

Is your Website Complete?

Your website is a company brochure. Think of a new car brochure. A cover (enticing you to read on) and pages and pages of specs – Interior, exterior, pictures of the car in various driving settings, engine specifications, color combinations and prices. All of this has the goal of you seeing yourself in the car.

Do you have the following items on your website:

Products – A simple list of all products that you sell, with a short description and a link to further information. Include as much of the following as you have:

Screenshots!!! Demo version, screencams, FAQ, Documentation, References, technical specifications, sample reports

Remember: You are trying to make their short list so they will contact you. They will NOT contact you if your website doesn’t pass their muster.

(Have you ever bought something from a website that you did not like? Have you even stayed around very long?)

References – You MUST have real people saying nice things about your products. If you cannot get permission, use first name and last initial (no company name) with the quote. You should have these in your mail file. If not, call some current customers and ask for a single line quote that you can use with or their name. If they can’t, show them the First name last initial quotes, which they should agree to .

Corporate – Who is this company. # of years in business (=stability) is critical.

Downloads (or similar calls-to-action) – Make that link easy to find and put more than one location. I have one on every page in addition to my top menu. This is one of your “Lobster Traps” to capture customers. You only really need a valid email address to start communicating with them (see Lead Management, below).

Support – Let them know they will get support. Make that page very accessible, too.

Ask a question – This is less scary than “Contact Us” where a salesperson will call.
