Arkwright Insurance

The Task

Arkwright Insurance is a $500 million dollar commercial property insurer. At the time of this engagement, 1985, there were only word processing workstations in each of the eight major client regions nationwide. Arkwright needed to manage essential client data to facilitate the risk management and insurance process.


Our Solution

MayFlower implemented an Account Risk Information System (ARIS), which represented a strategic corporate response to regional office needs.

ARIS runs on a local area network to provide shared information for users in Engineering, Sales, and Underwriting. We installed ARIS on eight regional networks, putting over 300 users on line with account information at their fingertips.

ARIS facilitated information flows between the operation departments for the insurance policy renewal process by electronically linking the following departments:
  • Engineering begins the Account Risk process by reassessing the quality of the risk.
  • Underwriting rates the risk and quantifies it as a dollar amount based on Engineering's evaluation.
  • Sales acts as the main client liaison, maintaining client mailings and reviewing property values.
  • Benefits

    The implementation of ARIS and improved information management has several important benefits for Arkwright, including:
  • Increased return on investment from installed equipment
  • Increased worker productivity
  • More work completed in the same time
  • Fewer errors and better quality work
  • Ability to produce labor intensive reports not previously feasible

    The benefits of ARIS enabled Arkwright to move towards a paperless office, while facilitating communication between Engineering, Underwriting, and Sales to improve client service.
